Frequently Asked Questions
If you’ve never worked with a membership-based practice before, or you’re unfamiliar with integrative care, you might have questions. We’re here to walk you through what’s included, what’s optional, and how we make care easier for you.
What is Direct Primary Care (DPC)?
Direct Primary Care is a membership-based healthcare model where you pay your doctor directly, no insurance middlemen, or surprise bills. Your membership includes personalized, comprehensive primary care with longer visits, direct access to your physician, and a focus on wellness and prevention.
Is this concierge medicine?
No. Concierge medicine usually includes 24/7 access and still bills insurance. At Sona Via Health, we operate through a direct membership model. Your flat fee covers most of your care and allows for longer, more thoughtful visits—not unlimited access, but a smaller practice built for real connection and continuity.
Can you be my primary care doctor?
Yes. Dr. Harika Pal is board-certified in Family Medicine and serves as the primary care physician for patients ages 11 and up. She offers preventive care, chronic disease management, acute visits, wellness planning, and integrative health, all under one roof.
What’s included in my membership?
Your membership includes:
Unhurried appointments
Personalized care plans
Annual physicals, cancer screenings
Integrative and functional medicine guidance
Women's health, sexual health, travel health, and more For full details, visit the Services and Membership page
What’s not included:
Labs, imaging, and diagnostic tests (billed separately by the lab or facility)
Integrative/Functional Medicine specialty testing (gut microbiome testing, hormone testing, etc.)
Medications, supplements, or medical equipment
Care provided by outside specialists or hospitals
Can I use my insurance?
We do not bill insurance. Many patients use their insurance for outside labs, imaging, medications, or specialty referrals—but your primary care is covered through your membership.
Do you offer care for families?
Yes. We welcome individuals, couples, and families. We care for adults and adolescents (11+), and offer membership pricing tiers for individuals, partners, and families.
Do you offer virtual care?
Yes. Your membership includes secure messaging and virtual visits when appropriate. Due to state licensing regulations, patients must be physically located in the states of New York or New Jersey at the time of any telehealth appointment.
I don’t live in NYC. Can I still become a patient?
Yes! Many of our patients live in surrounding areas and commute into NYC for work or visits. It’s easy to see Dr. Pal in person when you’re in the city. For virtual appointments, please note that State regulations require that all telehealth appointments occur while the patient is physically in the state of New York or New Jersey.
Do you prescribe medications or order labs/imaging?
Yes. As a licensed physician, Dr. Pal can prescribe medications, order labs and imaging, and coordinate with specialists.
What if I need to go to the hospital or see a specialist?
If you’re unsure about your treatment plan after hospital care or a specialist visit, Dr. Pal is here to help you review results, clarify recommendations, and discuss how to integrate them into your unique wellness journey.
